J'ai choisi de faire mon stage dans une médiathèque et notamment celle de Laxou car j'aime les livres, j'aime cette atmosphère feutrée et calme, et je voulais en découvrir le fonctionnement complet car je ne connais que le côté "adhérent" puisque je suis abonnée.
Creating a Municipal Library in the city of Laxou common 15.900 inhabitants located in the western part of Greater Nancy, was decided January 21st in 1972 by then Mayor, Mr. Gérard Thirion.
It was first installed in the former premises of the Town Hall, located at Place de la Liberté. The project was ambitious: he had to create the post of librarian, but also make many acquisitions. The post was allocated to Mr. Bruthiaux, now chief curator of the library, and the allotment was voted to the establishment of a fund of pounds. Therefore, the library could open its doors in June, 1973 adults and children a few months later in October.
Victim of its success and its expansion, the premises were quickly considered cramped and the children's library was transferred to a vacant classroom in the school Louis Pergaud. The opening of these premises, November 4th 1974 enabled the creation of a new deputy librarian.
At the end of that year, after a year of operation, the library contained 9.800 books, 1.458 registered readers and some 32.867 items borrowed.
The Municipality is acquiring land Mareville street and began construction of the current library.
The latter was inaugurated Saturday, October 27th in 1990. A section disco was set up March 7th, 1992 and 1997 the library was the first establishment of the Greater Nancy to have connected to Internet.
At the end of 2000, the library had 86.806 books, 5.322 registered readers and 81.177 borrowed documents.
